What is a Shared Living Provider?
At First Choice DDS, we’re proud to offer shared living services where people with developmental, intellectual or other disabilities can experience a safe, nurturing living environment in order to thrive more independently.

Shared Living Providers offer individualized care and services, with the goal of providing independence, privacy and dignity for their residents. They provide 24/7 support for activities of daily living such as bathing and dressing, medication management, transportation and light housekeeping.

Being a Shared Living Provider
Shared living is an excellent option for individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who want to live independently but may need some help with daily living skills. Residents are able to live in their own apartment or home with other adults who have similar needs. This arrangement allows them to be part of a community where they can build friendships with others who understand their unique challenges. The goal is for residents to become as independent as possible while still receiving the support they need.

Shared Living Providers offer 24/7 hands-on social and independent living skills training in a family setting. Clients are empowered to work with their providers to set their own goals for habilitation and independence. Additionally, other support such as therapy, behavioral management strategies is available to individuals that may have a mental health diagnosis and/or severe behavioral impairments that need to be addressed.

Clients typically stay in one home long-term which allows them to build a strong family-like connection with their provider. Also, with certain disabilities, clients can be very specific about how they like things done, so it is very important for providers to get to know their clients and preference in care. At First Choice DDS, we have a very strict process for finding SLPs to ensure that our clients are consistently getting the care the deserve.
