With connection being our driving force, we take a hands on approach when sourcing and matching our shared living providers for our clients unique needs. We have a deep commitment to our clients, and are very selective in working with providers that are just as committed to providing the highest quality of care. Our team understands that each of our clients has a unique set of needs, dreams, and goals, and is very intentional with every interaction to help them realize the best version of themselves. It's what makes us tick :) Our History First Choice DDS was founded in 2021 by Alexander Patterson. First Choice DDS operates on the foundation that individuals with developmental disabilities must have the same rights and standing in the community as persons without such disabilities. Based on a system of individual needs matching, First Choice DDS presents a different model of residential care and shared living experiences not found elsewhere in the Omaha metro area. Alexander’s first thought of opening his own agency came when he saw flaws in other companies that he worked for in the past, he saw the clients suffer due to poor decisions made by other agencies. Alexander wanted to create and develop a company that really was family oriented and practiced putting the client’s family first and making sure that nothing was overlooked. It is important to us that we are always putting the client’s needs first and being a positive advocate to the individuals that will be in the First-Choice family. Our Founder Alexander Patterson Founder / CEO Alexander Patterson is an entrepreneur dedicated to improving the quality of life for others. While studying at Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL, focusing on pre-law and political science, Alexander worked as a direct support professional (DSP) in the Huntsville area, where he first learned how to care for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities or illnesses. His main duties included helping patients complete basic housekeeping tasks, transporting patients to appointments or other social outings and keeping patients safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment. In the years since Alexander’s first experience in 2015 with community living for persons with developmental disabilities, Alexander moved to Omaha, NE, and began his work again in community living, rising to a coordinator position, assisting the care team to enhance client well-being, and developing strong and trusting rapports with clients, guardians, SLPs and other staff. Read more A Word From Alexander “I have been working in the field of community living for persons with developmental disabilities for eight years. What made me want to work in this field was experiences that I had myself as an SLP observing the quality of care delivered to persons in community living arrangements. I knew there was a better way. I wanted to make a change and impact the lives of the clients in a positive way. After just a few months of working as a DSP and moving back to Omaha, I was promoted to Residential Coordinator where I was responsible for managing 30-40 clients. One day a client needed emergency placement and I agreed to take him into my own home. I was not an SLP at that time! The client flourished in my home and the State noticed and asked me to come onboard as a formal SLP. I have a deep passion for individuals with disabilities and I specialize in high behavior and non-verbal clients. I want to make a difference in the lives of the individuals that I serve. My goal is to improve the individual’s quality of live by removing the mobility, social and economic barriers and setting the sky as the limit for what an individual with developmental disabilities can achieve." -
